I was warmly received at Deepdale, Preston North End's home ground last Tuesday, having been invited to speak at a meeting of the club's Sporting Memories group. I addressed an audience of around sixty, talking about my Hydonian trilogy and in particular, of course, Twenty-six Nil, which features Preston's 26-0 FA Cup humiliation of Hyde FC in October 1887. Coincidentally, BBC TV were at the ground filming a piece about a particular Preston supporter and I found myself (for a couple of seconds!) on Thursday's North West Tonight on BBC1! An eagle-eyed friend saw it 'live' and alerted me, so I watched it later on i-player. Screenshot below. Sadly no BBC journalist had time to speak to me, but I did sell out of books so it was a successful as well as enjoyable morning.
